Kuopio University Hospital’s Microsurgery Center is a meeting place for students of the latest surgical technologies, researchers and businesses. We enable the development of sophisticated surgical technical skills and innovation in the field through close interaction with clinical professionals. Our facilities in the heart of Kuopio University Hospital cover an authentic-looking surgical learning environment and laboratory environment of over 200 m².
The Center was established in 2017. Our operation is supported by the Regional Council of Pohjois-Savo and the European Regional Development Fund.
We have facilities of over 200 m² consisting of a dry exercise area for surgical techniques, a wet laboratory, a meeting room and a conference area suited, for example, for live streaming lectures.
Wetlab is designed for surgical training and development with high-fidelity biological models. Dedicated micro- and macroinstrumentation are available for bone and soft tissue surgery. It is equipped with authentic operation room equipment, enabling sophisticated multimedia connectivity and communications.
The dry exercise laboratory is an easy-access surgical training and development area. It is equipped with a variety of microinstruments and various synthetic exercises. Advanced surgical simulators are available for microscopic, laparoscopic, endoscopic, ophtalmic, arthroscopic, and ultrasound-assisted procedures.
Meeting room is the place for social encounters. It is equipped for remote connectivity and is optimal for small meetings up to eight (8) people.
Conference area is suitable for lectures and exhibitions up to forty (40) participants. All presentations and multimedia from within the Microsurgery Center can be streamed and broadcasted abroad.
The visualization laboratory is designed for the preoperative planning of surgical procedures. It is equipped with powerful computers and virtual surgical planning software.
